4-Day Devised Theatre Intensive

Description:
In November 2024, Ebony R. Gooden took part in Ghost River Theatre’s 4-Day Devised Theatre Intensive, a transformative program designed for artists across disciplines. Led by Artistic Director Eric Rose, this immersive workshop focused on the innovative tools and techniques behind Ghost River Theatre’s acclaimed productions.

Ebony not only deepened her own artistic practice but also advocated for accessibility in the arts. With the support of the Canada Council for the Arts, she provided the cost of an interpreter for the workshop. Additionally, Ebony invested in another Deaf artist by covering their ticket and transportation costs, ensuring broader representation and participation in this creative space.

Workshop Highlights:

  • Themes: Collaborative creation, visual storytelling, and non-traditional text development.
  • Location: West Village Theatre, Calgary, Alberta.
  • Format: Hands-on, intensive sessions with a focus on dynamic devising methods.

Accessibility:
Ebony R. Gooden made sure the workshop was accessible by arranging for interpreters, with support from the Canada Council for the Arts. She also helped another Deaf artist attend the workshop by covering their ticket and transportation costs. This shows Ebony’s dedication to making sure Deaf artists can take part in important creative opportunities.
